My Passion and What Started All of This!

Deb Marsden
Hi...I'm Deb Marsden and I have been shopping farmers markets and buying local products for a long time. When I was a child growing up in Clinton, before we had so many large super market options, I remember my mother would go to a butcher for her meat in Madison, produce from Fonicello's (now closed) or Bishops in Guilford, because they had the freshest products. We always stopped at roadside stands as we travelled to visit relatives via back roads to pick up whatever was fresh that day.

I created CT Farm Fresh Express, LLC because I am passionate about preserving our farms in CT and because we have an abundance of wonderful products grown and created in this state that you should have access to no matter where you live or work. I would like to share this passion with you.

I love the idea of supporting our local farmers. I started my journey to creating CTFFE by joining a CSA, (Community Supported Agriculture) A CSA is a share program where you pay a fee in the beginning of the season to the farmer and every week you get your share of their bounty. I loved the concept and for most families it works great, but my problem was, I sometimes didn’t get to the farm on time or was away that week and my share was donated. Another issue I had was we ended up not eating all of the food I would get, we have some picky eaters in our house. It didn’t work for my family but it works great for many and its a great help to farmers, they purchase their seeds for the season with the moneys collected in the spring.

CTFFE is not a co-op, think of us as more like an online farmer’s market. You see what’s fresh and available each and every week. You place your order for what you want, when you want and we bring it to your door. It’s that simple.

We strive to find the freshest quality products that are available for you to choose from. We travel almost anywhere in the state to get these products for our many loyal customers who support these farms all year long.

I believe we, as a society, have lost track of how our food is grown, where it comes from, and how it is processed. We walk into our local mega grocery stores and pick from hundred, maybe thousands of products and do we really think about the environmental impact those products have, what it takes to grow, process, package, distribute and stock these products.

Did you know that most of the greens available in those mega stores come from California? Or that almost all the meat so nicely stacked in the coolers are from farms that abuse the animals in ways that would make you become a vegetarian? It's a shame because we have farmers in CT growing the same products and do it better and safer. I see the problem for most of us has been, one, finding a farmer's markets and two, finding a time to get to it while it is open. The problem for farmers, is getting all their great seasonal products to you, the consumer. That’s where we come in: We’re the missing link between you and the many farms we serve.

If you share my passion please reach out and support our local farms by either ordering from our website, ctfarmfreshstore.com or go to one of the hundreds of farmers markets across our beautiful state.

I am always available to chat or if you have any questions about the farms or how to order don’t hesitate to call us. The office number is 860-873-8760.
Our web store is open Thursday evenings and stays open till Tuesday at 10 a.m. for you to place your order. You pay by Visa or MasterCard.
